What is a Career Change Dog?
Our professional trainers carefully select our dogs by evaluating them for temperament, health and eagerness to please. They are rescued from shelters where they are at risk for euthanasia. They enter a rigorous training program to become Hearing Dogs for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Not all of our outstanding dogs can meet the demands of becoming a Certified Assistance Dog, thus the need for a "Career Change". They are, however, still winners, and make wonderful pets. Many are already housebroken and some know basic obedience commands. In short, these "near misses" make wonderful companions. We can help match you with a lifelong canine companion.

Moxi is a 1 yr old, 12 lb. possible Doxi/Papillon Mix. While her breed mix seems a bit ambiguous, we all agree here that she is 100% cute! Adopted from a local shelter to enter our Hearing Dog program, Moxi proved to be extremely enthusiastic for the classroom work but just does not love the public work as equally. She reluctantly gets into the car to drive over the canyons and has only expresses mild interest in walking with us through places like the mall, Costco, Target, etc. When we have a dog that simply does not enjoy some of the aspects of being a working dog, we "career change' them so that they can enjoy just being someone's companion. Moxi seems to love everyone she meets and gets along very well with other dogs. Her house manners have vastly improved while we have had her (chewing, housebreaking) but she is a young dog and training always needs to be ongoing. If you are interested in making Moxi a forever member of your family, please fill out our online application so we can better address questions or concerns . Due to staff constraints, we are only able to place our adoptable dogs within 50 miles of Malibu, CA.
